Google Maps & Markers plugin?

If you look at Radikale.net (a social site that looks suspiciously much like Elgg, except it's ASP :) ) you'll see that they have a combo of Google maps and google map markers. In the block "Kommende events" to the right they have connected an event calendar with google maps, to produce a marker for where each event that the users submit is.

Has any one of you seen, or are any of you planning to write, a plugin that has this combination of maps and markers?

I had plans for a google maps plugin but I only can start to work on that in aprox. two weeks. If you want we can talk about it.

I did some work, but had to abandon it, for now at least. Have a look, http://pccepa3.if.usp.br/trac/demi/browser/trunk/junk/kml and use whatever and however you want.

did this plugin ever get created? i'm very new to Elgg and would love to have a plugin-option to allow users to visualize via Google maps or other mapping software where other users live in relation to them.
