I unzipped v1.0, then transferred the files into my public directory on my server.

After filling out the first screen, I discovered I had to upgrade MySQL to v-5. This took me several days, as I have several clients on my server, and I needed to make sure I didn't upset any apple carts.

That done, I though it would be smooth sailing, but not so - upon submitting the second installation page, I received a 404 error, as it was looking for a file in the "action" subdirectory. There is none. There is an "actionS" subdirectory.

Hmmm - which is right?  Not able to quickly find the reference to "action", I changed the "actions" subdirectory to "action" and submitted the form again. This time, I received an error that it could not find the file /action/systemsettings/install (no extension)

I then tried to run {mydomain}/action/systemsettings/install.php.  The result was:

Call to undefined function elgg_set_viewtype() in /home/shadle/public_html/actions/systemsettings/install.php on line 16

I didn't look at install.php. I just had to stop at this point. I have a limited time to work on this (in between other things) and I can't get past the install.

Are we still in beta here? (honest question)

Can anyone help me?

I just realized this is in the "Plugins" forum. I'll try to find the proper forum. All very confusing here.

Hello,

I am going to build a music community site.
What I need:
1. The site has band lists
2. Users can be collaborated to upload videos, music, lyrics, image related to the band name.
3. Visitors can browse band profiles by Alphabet (A-Z)
4. When visitors view band profile page, they can see the stuffs (video,music.lyric.image) uploaded by users.

Is this all posible to do with elgg?

Thank for any reply.

Hey,

So I'm trying to install Elgg version 1.0 on my 1and1.com hosted site....I know this is for pre-1.0 elgg files but I can't seem to find a support forum for Elgg 1.0 anywhere on their official site. Is there one?

I followed the instructions (download, unzip, upload, create data folder, create database....) but when I tried to load the directory in Firefox I got this error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_NEW in /homepages/19/d94770537/htdocs/elgg/engine/start.php on line 85

 D=!

I don't know what to do. I googled and some people seem to have had trouble with Elgg with 1and1.com before but their errors (eg. http://classic.elgg.org/mod/forum/forum_view_thread.php?post=11) seem to be a bit different from mine, because I can't even get the installation started.

 Any ideas?

I don't know much about server environments or anything technical, but I'd really like to get elgg up and running =) Any help would be appreciated.

 Thanks!
