Keywords
From Elgg Documentation
Keywords - also known as "tags" - are a way for content, objects and people to be found throughout Elgg. You can learn more about tagging at the Wikipedia page for tags.
In Elgg, keywords are case insensitive, and separated with commas. This allows for keywords consisting of phrases as well as individual words.
When a keyword has been used more than once, it turns into a link. If you click on that link, you'll see a search page that lists every other object in the system which has been tagged with that keyword, allowing you to very quickly find relevant content.
[edit] Example
Over on the educational community Elgg.net, Dave Tosh lists social learning as an interest on his profile. This is a keyword field. You can click on social learning to see every relevant object in the system: not only every other user interested in social learning, but also every weblog post, every uploaded file, and more.
Keywords are a very simple, but powerful, way of linking content throughout a site.
