Hi All

i have installed Elgg on a Win XP machine and have successfully installed all the relevant services.

i ran through the visual setup and then starting receiving an error 500 in internet explorer.

i looked further into this and discovered it has something to do with using * in a path which i found was present in the .htaccess file.

when i commented this out i now receive a database error

the error according to apache is

cannot redirect '/elgg-0.8' to 'index.php'; target is not a valid absoluteURI or abs_path

this problem is very urgent so any help would be greatly apprecaited

Okies well i read all the posts on people who are having problems and i'm still LOST!  Sorry for my ignorance...  This is what i know...  My host is godaddy.com,  Path is home/content/u/s/e/username/html/ now..  u/s/e would be my first three letters  of username and username my username... now i'm completely and utterly lost!  Is /html my elgg?  or is it /home/content/u/s/e/username/html/elgg/  because either way i tried i still get the dirroot error.  I switched to linux package because idk if my windows package for hosting had anything to do with it but still seems to be messing up so must be me doing something wrong.  I also tried the test.php code and i got a totally different path from what godaddy.com is telling me is the correct Xone=S  I seen in a post $CFG->dirroot = dirname(__FILE__) . '/'; would help me... now do i put that EXACT code in my config? or what?  because the part thats confusing me on that is the "dirname(__FILE__) . '/';"  am i soppose to put my directory where it says dirname if so then what do i put for (__FILE__)?? and also do i add the ".'/'"?? LOL so sorry for the ignorance i'll blame it on me being blonde >.<  Thank you for any help you can give me!

I am receiving the following error anytime my elgg installation attempts to send an e-mail.

ERROR: Could not instantiate mail function.

This is for all e-mails, forgotten password, invitation, admin user creation, etc. The e-mails do not get delivered either.

I've noticed that this has been a problem for some other users. I installed elgg on my site about a month ago, and registration e-mails were working just fine. I recently upgraded to elgg 8.1 so I'm wondering if this might be causing this new error? My hosting says there is nothing wrong with the sendmail feature on my server. If anyone could shed some light on this I'd appreciate it. I'm using the PHP Mailer, not the smtp or qmail e-mail functions.

I was able to successfully install Elgg however.  I get rectangle with red X for all profile photos.  I'm not even able to see the default profile photo.

To give a bit more background:

  • Cleanly installed CentOS 5.0 (also tried on FC3 with no luck)
  • Installed GD library using yum
  • Installed ImageMagick using yum
  • Changed AllowOverride All
  • Used installer and then copy-pasted the generated config into config.php
  • My data directory is writable and the uploaded file is actually there - just that it doesn't show up.

I'm guesing there is some kind of a problem with whatever processing takes place on both the uploaded and the default profile photos.

 Thanks for your help
