hey everybody!

I'm just trying to install the latest elgg on my local WAMP. I'm not very experienced in all this so it tool me quite long till I got elgg working. Now that its finally running I'm just fighting with one disgusting error, and I can't find a solution for it :-(

That's what I get:

Warning: setlocale() [function.setlocale]: Passing locale category name as string is deprecated. Use the LC_* -constants instead. in C:\wamp\www\elgg\lib\php-getttext\gettext.inc on line 131

Warning: setlocale() [function.setlocale]: Invalid locale category name LC_MESSAGES, must be one of LC_ALL, LC_COLLATE, LC_CTYPE, LC_MONETARY, LC_NUMERIC, or LC_TIME. in C:\wamp\www\elgg\lib\php-getttext\gettext.inc on line 131

 This comes accompanied then sometimes by:

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at C:\wamp\www\elgg\lib\php-getttext\gettext.inc:131) in C:\wamp\www\elgg\lib\elgglib.php on line 3370

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at C:\wamp\www\elgg\lib\php-getttext\gettext.inc:131) in C:\wamp\www\elgg\login\index.php on line 40

 Anyone has a clue what might be the problem? I didn't change anything in the gettext plugin....is there anything I have to tune in order to get it working correctly?

Thanks in advance,

manolito

I just installed Elgg. I want to use the Mandarin theme but I have a few questions. First, does the theme only change the user's personal page?

If the whole appearance of the site can be changed, where do I go to select the new theme for the entire site?

 Thanks,

Hi there!

For an important assignment I'd need to get the mediawiki authentication integration going.

I've gotten the files from the curverider website and set up everything. However, the mediawiki plugin doesn't seem to be able to find the elgg cookie. (and so I'm redirected to the error page.).

i've looked in the firefox privacy settings, where you can have a look at the stored cookies, and there's no cookie called "elggperm" .. instead there's ElggSession (i tried specifying that in the configuration, but with no luck...).

I'm using debian, php4.

Do you think I should go back to elgg .6 ? maybe it's better to get that going with the new version... wiki integration is a very important feature in my opinion...

any help would be hightly appreciated! :)

cheers

Okay, I've been trying to install elgg 0.8 rc2 for probably 5 days now.  I didn't want to post until I was absolutely sure it was something that I could not figure out on my own.  I have searched the othe posts and have not found anything helpful for my issure.

I have installed PHP 5 and mySQL server 5 on to my vista machine (with IIS 7).  The two of which are properly installed, have tested fine and worked with other setups like pligg.

So I had a few bugs for a while but have managed to work all of them out but 1.  When I go to the main page (before the database is setup), it tells me the elgg installation is not quite ready yet.  So I walk through the visual install, enter all that information in correctly and then click save.

All of the information gets written to the config.php file and the mySQL database that I setup for it gets all the tables and fields setup in it.  Following that I see that it says "YAY" we're done at the bottom of the screen after displaying all the coding for setting up the tables and fields in mysql.  So I click the button at the bottom to go to the next screen and get this thing rolling, and bam I get a blank page.

So in my browser I redirect to the main url and nothing, no error or anything, just a blank screen.  I've seen others with blank screen issues but non the same as mine and I even tried to follow what others did to fix it to no avail.

PLEASE HELP!

P.S. - Sorry for being so wordy, just wanted to be sure I was clear on exactly what was happening.

We need to integrate the registration process with vbulletin and elgg so that when someone registers with one he is automatically registered with the other.

 Vbulletin is written in php and uses mysql as a database. We would of course pay for the integration work.

I have installed Elgg on a web host and I am experiencing a problem I can't see mentioned in the documentation.

I can access the _admin system fine and when I first went to index.php the database tables were created successfully. When I clicked continue however the page took forever to load and displayed an error message at the top:

Warning: file_get_contents(http://ex.plode.us/mod/searchping/elggping.php?pingtype=re) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: Connection timed out in /home/mycpdspcom/public_html/mod/explodeping/lib.php on line 33

I have tried adjusting the .htaccess file to no avail.  I cannot find the  mod/explodeping/ folder referred to in this error message.  It seems to be to do with accessing a file on a third party site.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Since the upgrade to Elgg 0.8 (from 0.8 rc2), I have noticed that in 'Your Files' if I try to edit folder or file properties (e.g. File title:, File description:, Access restrictions:, etc) when [Save] is selected it fails and redirects the browser to our Elgg homepage. Adding files/folders and their properties for the first time works fine, it's just (re)editing that's the problem.

Any ideas?

I keep getting this error when trying to activate ldap:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in /var/www/htdocs/config.php on line 240

 This is the point in the config file where ldap_host is defined.  I am using Active Directory. The server can ping the ldap server, so I do not think it is the issue.  Does anyone have a
config example I can use?  I just added the ldap code at the very bottom of the config file, basically just copying and then filling in our ldap info from the /auth/ldap/lib.php file.  I started with $CFG --> auth = ldap and went down to $CFG -->ldap_internal_fallback = true.

Anyone using this with ldap and active directory?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

But i cannot for the life of me find the flag content inappropriate form in this page.

so i'm running an elgg site, also looking at creating a local networking site within my community - was thinking elgg, but the emphasis is so social that i started to mull over phpizabi as well...the latest version is really like elgg if you ripped out any intelligent purpose - very slick, but bereft of real controls, permissions management and all of that...

 anybody here have experience running both elgg and phpizabi? you can see the whole thing at <a href="http://www.phpizabi.net/">phpizabi's main site</a> (there's a demo there as well)

...my MAIN concern is that their community SELLS the mods, plugins and all of that...nobody there appears to be interested in improving the overall experience, rather trying to get like 5 or 10 bucks or more for every theme, plugin, mod, etc...not too bad an idea to keep developers incented, but certainly a different kind of community...

I've managed to install the software but I get these two messages at the end

  • Configuration problem: The $CFG->dirroot setting in config.php points to a directory that does not exist.
  • Configuration problem: The PHP setting 'register_globals', which is a huge security risk, is turned on. There should be a line in the .htaccess file as follows: php_flag register_globals off If the line is present but has a # at the start, remove the # character.
I'm pretty much flying blind. I've read the documentation I can find but I don't seem to be able to work out the path and as for the .htaccess (I can see it but I can't open it) Any help much appreciated.

We have installed ELGG 0.8 on an Apache Server with MySQL 4.1 in a subdirectory "/incubator/". We have the index page up but when you log into the main account defined in the config file we get a page not found error. You look at the address bar and it has dropped the subdirectory "/incubator/" and now reads "/login/index.php." Have we missed understood where we are to define the sub directory preferences? Any help would be good. It appears to be dropping the relative linking aspect and varies according to which login you sign in with.

Hello,

We just got ELGG installed and working on a Dell Pentium 4 3 ghz Core Duo with 1 gig ram(to be upgraded to 2 gig).   The box is running ubuntu.

How many people can we expect using it at once?   I work for a school district and we have 18,000 students K-12.  I expect most use to come from Middle School and High School where students would be using ELGG to create digital portfolios, groups, and if nothing else using it to transfer files for finishing work at home.

Is there software that would generate load on the server for testing?  What are you running elgg on?

Please share.

When a user attempts to comment to a blog, it just goes to a blank page.  I have no idea how to solve this problem.

It was the same type of error that was occuring when I did the installation and attempted to use elggadmin but it went to a blank page and did not apply the changes.  To solve that problem I manually edited the config.php page.  So I am assuming there may be a php memory problem or a mod_rewrite problem.

Any suggestions or anybody else having this problem.

It was working fine in 0.7 just upgraded to 0.8.

My server has php 4.4.7, MySql 5.0.27 and Apache 1.3.37

Thanks in advance

I am pretty sure that elgg uses phpthumb to render the profile icons. I would like to change it so all of these icons are rendered and cropped or enlarged etc, to fit into a square 100x100.

 There is a way to do this i am sure of it. Any one of any ideas or suggestions?

I recently upgraded from 0.6-something (but with the older database format) to 0.8. All went well and we are also now using LDAP.

The one thing that did not go to plan is that some, not all, RSS feeds from blogs do not work. When I check on these, in all cases of failure the file weblog.xml is missing from the relevant directory in the ELGG data area.

Is there a way that ELGG can re-create these files? Presumably it does do so the first time it is installed. The data dir has the relevant write permissions etc.

Hi folks,

I've just upgraded to 0.8 and found that six links seem to be broken - "View all posts", "Post a new entry" and "Edit" in Blogging, "Owned Communities" in Network and "Edit members" and "View membership requests" in Community. I've been though everything I can think of but can't seem to fix it, and everything else works fine.

Do these six mean anything to anyone out there? What links these together so that they all fail? I'm at a loss to explain why links that seem so separate from each other all seem to fail at the same time whilst everything else still works!

Can anyone else running Elgg 0.8 try this for me to confirm if it is a bug?

Create a new community
Navigate to the communities profile (e.g. /newcomunity/profile)
Click "Manage Widgets" and add  any type of widget to the profile
Save the widget and go back to the profile

Does the widget show for you?
Seems broken for me.

We got ELGG up and running, but we are experiencing some slight bug issues.

  • The first is when you've created a community and then you want to add a widget to the community the link takes you to a blank page with this type or url structure - "../mod/profile/add.php?owner=3 " Nothing there but a white page, you have to hit the back button to get back to the community editing page. Any Ideas?
  • Logging into the ELGG as a user it takes you to a basic pge with the message "The system will remember you and automatically log you in next time. You have been logged on." i would have thought it would take you to the "frontpage_loggedin" as default.
Over all we are very pleased with the capabilities the ELGG has to offer us.

I'vebeing trying to install the elgg engine for a couple of days and always get a couple of errors along the way, after trouble shooting some of the problems I end up with this one that seems to stick around:

  • Configuration problem: The PHP setting 'register_globals', which is a huge security risk, is turned on. There should be a line in the .htaccess file as follows: php_flag register_globals off If the line is present but has a # at the start, remove the # character.

As said I just opened the file and edited out what it needed and replaced the old file with the new one.  It gives me the same error everytime.

 Does it matter I'm running elgg in a subdirectory just for testing?

I'd appreciate any help in advance, Thanks guys.

 I have installed elgg on blue host's server - as another member here indicated they had installed it there and were running it without incident.

 So, the files are installed, I renamed the htaccess-dist file to .htaccess and right away got a 500 server error "A misconfiguration on the server caused a hiccup. Check the server logs, fix the problem, then try again. "

 Now what do I do?!?!

I'm using TrulySimple as my default theme.  When I try to change frontpage_loggedout using the Elgg administration panel, it doesn't change anything.  In fact, it doesn't even look like that file is being called when the login/main page loads.

I want to change the login/main page (socialregister2.com) to *just* a username and password login area, sort of like Elgg Spaces.

Let me know if anyone knows how to do this!  I've gone through all the documentation and can't find out how / what the problem is.  Thanks.

If you create a presentation and flagg it to be accesible to a community, it does not show up under that communities Presentation lists. Has anyone else experienced this?

I tested this on the EduSpaces site also by creating a community and then publishing a presentation for it. When I went to the community and clicked the "Presentations List" for the community nothing showed up. But, if you do a "all" search for a keyword it will show up in the search and you can access the presentation.

 Am I the first to come across this?

I recently installed Elgg and after installation was greeted by a message which told me to name/upload the .htaccess file. Upon doing so I was treated to various HTTP-500 errors. I've read something about having to setup the 'RewriteBase' option in the .htaccess file? I've tried but have so far been unsuccessful, how would I go about doing this correctly?

My main site runs from a folder, elgg running from a further folder. So it looks like:

www.lutomes.com/baldur/users/

Below I'll post the 'roots' found within my config file.

$CFG->wwwroot = 'http://lutomes.com/baldur/users/';

$CFG->dirroot = '/blah/blah08/b2865/blah.blahblah/htdocs/baldur/users/';

How would I go about rectifying this problem? Anything would be much appreciated.

I installed the latest version of the forum plugin with the released version of Elgg 0.8 and I have a problem when I try to edit a blog entry. The following message is produced at the top of the web page (above the toolbar):

Warning: in_array() [function.in-array]: Wrong datatype for second argument in /var/www/elgg-0.8/mod/blog/lib/weblogs_posts_edit.php on line 36

Has anybody else seen this? It does not stop us from editing the page - that works.

We also have some other plugins installed, including the folio plugin, and we are aware that these two plugins have conflicted in the past, but they seem to work now apart from this behaviour.

I know I can do this as admin, but I'd like to change the way elgg does this at signup.

Thanks in advance!

Thx for your help

I have a new install of Elgg and have solved most problems with the exception of CSS not being applied to the frontend.

I CAN access and save the CSS file through the admin interface.

I am running on PHP 5 LAMP (Shared Server) and a subdomain. The rewrite base is / (which solved my 404 errors. mod_rewrite is on, the .htaccess is working and AllowOverride is set.

I have tried every tip I could find, but still nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have WAMP installed on my machine and I downloaded the latest copy of Elgg. But I am getting this error.

Elgg still isn't ready to run just yet. (Sorry.)

You're going to need to rename the htaccess-dist file that came with your installation (it's in the main installation directory) to .htaccess.

If you're using a Windows server, this is a bit of a problem. Windows doesn't like files starting in a period, but there's a workaround: open htaccess-dist in Notepad, click Save As, change the file type pulldown to all files (*.*), and type .htaccess in the filename box.

If you're using any other kind of server, all is well with the world. (If you're uncertain, try renaming the file: most servers run on Linux or a similar operating system.)

Read the INSTALL file that came with your installation for more information about installing Elgg.

I am not sure why. And when I check in my Database the tables are not created.

Please help me with this. My config.php looks like this:

Hi,

I have installed elgg and I am getting the error just above the username and password field on the frontpage.

Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/mydomain/public_html/elgg/elgg/lib/elgglib.php on line 1265

Can anyone give me any suggestions as to why I am getting the error. Please help.

Thanks

Hi all

I've just upgraded to 0.8; if logged on as an admin user, virtually every page contains a large pink box (!) full of debug messages: how can I turn this off?

By the way, i'm pretty sure that these messages are appearing even if no error has occurred; for example, here's the latest:

If I add a comment to a blog/forum article, on hitting the "Add comment" button I get the following error message returned on an otherwise blank web page:

Input Array does not match ?: SELECT * FROM elgguser_flags WHERE flag = 'forum' AND user_id =

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by
(output started at /var/www/elgg-0.8/lib/adodb/adodb.inc.php:390)
in /var/www/elgg-0.8/mod/blog/lib/weblogs_actions.php on line 230

The comment is added.

I am using Elgg 0.8, the latest Forum plugin, adapted as noted in another thread, and several other plugins, including the latest version of the Folio plugin.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Guys,

I have managed to get through all the installation issues listed in the forum however I have been completley stumped by this one.

Above my page outputs are lines and lines of errors all essentially the same as this example -

" Warning: array_key_exists() [function.array-key-exists]: The second argument should be either an array or an object in /home/sites/abergavenny-online.org.uk/public_html/networking/lib/php-getttext/gettext.php on line 252 "

without the quotes

Can someone help me straighten it out please, I am dying to start playing with this :)

(A reference to an old advert on British telly ...)

Situation:

  • elgg 0.8 production.   $CFG->debug = 7; in config.php
  • Post new entry : edit post (access restriction : Private)
  • Warning message:

"Warning: in_array() [function.in-array]: Wrong datatype for second argument in /var/www/elgg/mod/blog/lib/weblogs_posts_edit.php on line 36

Warning: in_array() [function.in-array]: Wrong datatype for second argument in /var/www/elgg/mod/blog/lib/weblogs_posts_edit.php on line 36"

  •  Save post works and warning goes away

Hello all,

I use an underscore in my usual username, so after installing ELGG I changed it using phpMyAdmin.  Everything else seems to work, I changed all references I could find to the new username with the underscore.

But...

When I try and view my profile, it looks for the new username via URL ( /user_name/profile/ ).  I need to find that 'location' and change it from the old version ( /username/profile/ ) to the new.

I've looked around and haven't spotted that reference.  Where could it be?

Thanks,

Charles

Hello All,

Installed ELGG on a DreamHost server.  Everything was smooth (by far the cleanest install I've seen to date) and thought I was in for a seamless experience.

But... ;-)

We're missing some of the CSS stylings (page backdrop, some text formatting, etc.) and are getting some funkiness in the redish update panel area that shows changes that have been made.

Here is the message:

pingtype=registernew
url=http%3A%2F%2Fchoicecitywiki.org%2Fcitywikiorg%2F
profileurl=http%3A%2F%2Fchoicecitywiki.org%2Fcitywikiorg%2F%25username%25
name=Choice+City+Wiki
rssurl=http%3A%2F%2Fchoicecitywiki.org%2Fcitywikiorg%2F%25username%25%2Frss
foafurl=http%3A%2F%2Fchoicecitywiki.org%2Fcitywikiorg%2F%25username%25%2Ffoaf

This update panel issue appears only to occur when logged in as an administrator.

The CSS issue occurs for all.

If you're interested in checking it out, here's the link:

Thanks in advance,
